What do we know for sure?

As developer kits are out with developers now, we will start to learn more about the Revolution, and the unique controller.

We do know that the Revolution won't be as advanced as the Xbox 360 or the PS3 - that's not the aim of the new console. Nintendo are attempting to capture the same mix of gamers that the fabulously successful GameBoy, GBA and DS have. That means lots more casual gamers and lots more games that can be picked up and played quickly.

We know that IBM and ATI are supplying the CPU (Broadway) and graphics chipsets (Hollywood); it will be small and quiet; it'll be backwards compatible with the GameCube and have a new CD sized disc format; it'll have WiFi and Internet connectivity (but no wired connection); it'll ahve USB 2.0 ports and 512Mb flash to save games; DVD Playback (with addon); you'll be able to download classic Nintendo games - including NES, SNES and N64 titles; a unique controller, with some secrets still to be revealed and finally, it'll be very well priced, with under $200 expected.

The Revolution doesn't have HDTV or a hard drive though, which differentiates the unit from the competition, but these help to keep the unit simple, cheap and quiet!

re: What do we know for sure?

This sounds neat, if I can download all my old NES games and play I will defiantly buy one! My PS2 may take a back seat - especially for under $200.

Does anyone remember Galaxy 5000?! - I used to love that!
